This is a dovetailed blanket chest. It's approximately 48 inches long by 20 inc hes tall by 20 inches deep. It is made of Eastern White Pine with an aromatic C edar lining. The dovetails were cut by hand. The hinges are brass self-contain ed hinges and lid supports. The piece is stained with a Minwax oil based stain and protected by a top coat of Mixwax polyurethane buffed down to a semi-gloss f inish.

 

This kitchen table was my wedding gift to Morgan. it's approximately 3 feet by 5 feet, about 32 inches tall. The top is curly Maple, and the legs are also Map le. The apron is Southern Yellow Pine. The top is made of three 5/4 boards joi ned with lap joints. The top is stained with a Minwax oil based stain and prote cted by a top coat of Seal-a-Cell Polyurethane buffed down to a satin finish. T he legs and apron are painted with a latex-based white paint.

 

This utility table was originally built as a microwave stand and repurposed as a utility table in an outdoor living space. It's approximately 40" tall, and the table top is approximately 3 feet by 1 1/2 feet. The trestle-style legs are ma de out of clear Cedar posts with mortise and tenon joinery. The table top and s helf are made of Eastern White Pine. The top and shelf are stained with a Minwa x oil based stain and protected by a top coat of Minwax Polyurethane left at a g lossy finish. The legs are painted with a latex-based white paint.

 

This entryway bench has a large storage compartment beneath the seat. it is app roximately 5 feet tall, 40 inches wide, and 20 inches deep. This piece was actu ally built entirely out of plywood and framing lumber, with some beadboard and m ouldings to provide a little interest. The coat hooks have a brushed nickle fin ish and the hinge is a 36" long chromed piano hinge. The construction is a fram e-and-panel style utilizing grooves and mortise and tenons. The piece was paint ed with an oil based paint in an old English style green color.

 

This is my workbench. It is 88 inches long by 18 inches deep by 33 inches tall. The top was made by laminating 1 3/4 inch wide by 3 inch thick strips of Hemlo ck Fir with the edge grain up. The front edge of the top is faced with a 3/4 in ch thick piece of Maple. The base is made of laminated Spruce and Fir -- the le gs are effectively 4x4, and the stretchers are 4x8. The base is constructed usi ng mortise and tenon joinery and painted with Rustoleum green. The end vise is a 7 inch quick release iron vise with 3/4 inch Maple jaws. A row of round dog h oles in the bench top align with the pop-up dog in the vice. The front vice is a 9 inch Shop Fox quick release iron vice. Its inner jaw is the workbench top a nd its outer jaw is a 2 1/2 inch thick lamination of Maple and Oak. The bench w eighs in the neighborhood of 250 pounds.

 

I framed the opening for, built, and installed these garage doors on my carriage house. Morgan designed them. They are built of 4x8 sheets of exterior siding, 2x3s providing a frame on the back, and 1x4s providing trim on the front. They were primed with an exterior latex primer and then finished with acrylic paint.

 

This is a flattop A-style mandolin. It has a laminated Spruce top, laminated Ch erry back and sides, and a Maple neck. The fretboard and the bridge are Walnut. The nutt is black plastic. The finish is a metallic blue paintjob with a top coat of gloss polyurethane.

 

This is an electric guitar based on the Gibson ES-335. The body is a single pie ce of mahogany with the hollow routed out, and the top is hard maple. The neck is a premanufactured Gibson-style replacement neck, mahogany with an ebony finge rboard. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Seth Lover humbuckers. The tuners are G rovers with custom ebony knobs. The rest of the hardware is mostly Gibson custo m shop replacement parts. The finish is a simple brushed on lacquer.

 

This is an OM-size acoustic guitar. The top is Sitka spruce, the back and sides are Sapele (a relative of mahogany). The neck is mahogany with a cocobolo headplate. The fingerboard and bridge are both ebony. The scale is 24.9". Tuners are Schallers. Finish is several coats of 2# cut shellac.
